Environmental Quality Authority and the Centre for Biodiversity organize a workshop on the IUCN system in the preparation of red lists of threatened species at the global and national level

Bethlehem – The Environmental Quality Authority and the Center for Biodiversity and Sustainability – Bethlehem University held a two-day workshop in Bethlehem on the IUCN system in the preparation of red lists of threatened species at the global and national levels.

Workshop, which was attended by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Prof. Brentrad de Montmillon, addressed the definition of biodiversity in the system used to classify threatened species, how to study and place them on the IUCN Red Lists at the global and national levels, and the steps needed to conserve these species, in order to prepare national plans and policies to conserve threatened species, prevent their extinction and remove the pressures and threats they face.

Workshop included familiarization with the International Union for Conservation of Nature's system for classifying and defining threatened ecosystems and how to put them on the red lists of global ecosystems that require special attention for protection, rehabilitation and restoration of natural balance.
The participants in the workshop recommended holding a training workshop as soon as possible for experts and key stakeholders in preparing the red lists of threatened species on how to deal with the programs of the International Union for Conservation of Nature in preparing the red lists of species in cooperation with the International Union for Conservation of Nature in order to help attract funding for projects to prepare the red lists, especially Protecting nature and biodiversity in general in Palestine.
It is noteworthy that the Environmental Quality Authority has been working for some time to update and develop the national biodiversity strategy and plan in Palestine as a commitment and response to the requirements of the International Convention on Biological Diversity, which Palestine signed in 2015.
